"The Fed Must Go!" by Walker Todd Early February 1791 a bill was passed by both houses of congress
requesting United States establish a federal bank. President
Washington asked for the legal opinion from his Secretary
of State, Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson said that charting a
corporation of this type would violate both the federal and
state constitutions. He reminded Washington that while they
both attended the Constitutional Convention they specifically
tied the hands of government with Article One Section Eight,
we wanted to bind them with strict chains, and force them
to live within the limits of the enumerated powers. "To
take a single step beyond these boundaries, is to take possession
of a boundless filed of power." |
